North Northumberland attends National Conference 2018

North Northumberland was recently represented by 4 members at NASUWT annual conference, held at the ICC in Birmingham.

Fiona Gillies (treasurer), Ian Davies, Richard Lyst (Federation Sec.), and Julie Parkin (assistant secretary, attended the conference which focussed on issues like teachers’ mental health and wellbeing, the public sector pay cap, class sizes and the teacher retention crisis, among many others.

Richard Lyst was sworn in as chief scrutineer, and two other North Northumberland delegates acted as conference scrutineers.

 Ian Davies moved the motion on the School Funding Crisis, that was submitted by North Northumberland, along with Newcastle, North Tyneside and Devon. The motion was successfully debated and upheld.

Julie Parkin proposed an amendment to the motion on Pension Age, originally submitted by North Tyneside and Newcastle upon Tyne, that was accepted, and strengthened the original motion.
